US jury decides fate of Blackwater mercenaries who killed 14 Iraqis 10
ELEANOR HALL: It's taken seven years but this week a Washington jury is considering why four Blackwater security contractors shot and killed a group of people in Iraq.
Three of the men are facing manslaughter charges, and another is facing a murder charge.
CHARLES ROSE: Well, what they're saying is one of the members of Blackwater group, with deliberation and intent, shot an Iraqi who was driving a white Kia sedan and that doing that created a firestorm of conflict that drew the other members of Blackwater into unlawfully and intentionally slaying some innocent Iraqi Testosterone Cypionate Steroid civilians, because chaos opened and then everybody started shooting at everybody.
And about 30 people died and there didn't seem to be a threat involved. The prosecution would argue that these Blackwater guys would be rogue individuals who were not properly applying the rules of engagement and they violated the law to the point that they committed murder.
SARAH SEDGHI: He says the mercenaries deny they deliberately caused harm to unarmed civilians.
CHARLES ROSE: The argument from the defence perspective is that there is no law that applies here.
They were within their rights to protect the individual that they were signed to protect and that this is a fault of war issue.
This is not murder, it's a textbook fault of war and that if they'd been soldiers would have never even been prosecuted.
SARAH SEDGHI: One man is facing a murder charge and will be sentenced to prison for life if found guilty.
Three other former contractors will face a 30 year sentence if found guilty of manslaughter and gun charges.
The contractors were not brought to trial in Iraq because they had immunity there.
But back in the US, Erik Prince, a former Navy seal who founded Blackwater, was called to Congress in 2007 to answer questions after the shooting and he defended his staff.
ERIK PRINCE: Most of the attacks we get in Iraq are complex meaning it's not just one bad thing, it's a host of bad things.
Car bomb followed by small arms attack. RPGs followed by sniper fire.
An incident occurs typically when our men fear for their life, they're not able to Cialis 10mg extract themselves from the situation, they have to use sufficient defensive fire to get off the axe, to get off that place where Turinabol What To Expect the bad guys have tried to kill Americans that day.
SARAH SEDGHI: But another "Oxandrolone Powder India" mercenary has challenged the claim they acted defensively. He testified against the other contractors in exchange for a lesser sentence.
An FBI investigation found 14 of the people killed that day were shot without just cause.

Zoe Tillman again.
ZOE TILLMAN: A large part of the prosecution's case "Achat Anabolisant Belgique" focused a lot on the fact that these were civilians who were killed.
The prosecutor walked through the lives of each of the victims, talking about what they did for a living, who their family members were, really trying to humanise them.
